What is it about a sleeping child that grabs a grandparents soul?

Photo shot with iPhone 5 in HDR mode.

It was the only time she (20 months old) was still enough to try and get a decent close up of her face.

You have articulated a profound mystery concerning what makes us what we are. I became a grandfather to a beautiful and loving baby girl sixteen years ago, and often had the feeling that I was being given, so to speak, a second chance---a chance to correct some of my mistakes and omissions with my adopted daughter. Of course I love them both deeply, but I sense that there is even more to the mystery of what makes us unique among other animal species. By the way, your photo is really touching and evocative. What a fine portrait. ---Ed

Sleeping or awake, sweetheart or hellion, a grandchild gets a grip on your heart and never lets go. Nice portrait.

nice job...my eye was instantly drawn to the gorgeous child's fabulous eye lashes and innocence. One day, a teenager but for now. nice.
