The Velvet-purple Coronet virtually glows when the sun hits him right. When you have 132 species of hummingbirds in Ecuador I guess you need to do something special to stand out.

Visiting a hummingbird feeder area in Ecuador was like entering a beehive. You really can't describe the feeling of having hundreds of birds and often a dozen different species flying around you all at the same time. You have to calm yourself down and just concentrate on one little area. Some birds tended to rest on the same branch after feeding. So sometimes you could pre-focus on a spot and just wait. But in the meantime there are a dozen other birds tempting you away.

Lovely shots. Did you go to Mindo? They have a hummingbird garden, a butterfly garden, and an orchid garden there (along with a bunch of other stuff).
