Adobe Photoshop Elements 15

Hi Hoggers- I am an intermediate photography hobbyist. Currently using Aperture for PP and photo library. Although fairly happy with Aperture, probably best to move on to Photoshop or Lightroom. However I hate the idea of monthly payments. Just saw an offer from B&H that expires tomorrow 3/31: Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements 15 for $74.95. I have no desire to advance to a professional level - just a much better amateur that takes really good pictures. Would appreciate your timely comments especially on learning curve, photo library storing and sufficiency. THANKS

Affinity photo will cost you less and it has more power (16 bit vs 8 bit only in Elements) and a lot more versatility. Take a look:

No matter what you get, there is a learning process. Consider examining books, courses, tutorials, etc. Based on your style of learning, pick the best learning experience you can find. Then pick the software.
When I did that, I found a course on Lynda.com taught by Jan Kabilli. (Lynda.com is free through a lot of libraries.) The course demonstrated the techniques and tools I wanted to learn. Since she used Photoshop Elements in the course, that's what I bought.
I confess to moving on to Lightroom and Photoshop CC and willingly pay the equal of a craft beer six pack monthly. But, the Elements package is extraordinarily good. Not only do you get Photoshop Elements, but Organizer and Premier Elements too. That is a lot of value for $75!

Why don't you understand what you get for $9.99, Photoshop, Bridge, Light Room continually being updated. Buy them separate and see what you pay and get. Are you a photographer or a picture take?

Photoshop 15 is a very capable and relatively easy tool to use at a decent price, BUT the majority of functions are 8 bit, and that's a deal-killer for me. I have PSE 15, but moved to the Adobe cc LR/PS package (as has been suggested) at 9.95 per month for the 16 bit tools.

Google "8 bit vs 16 bit" for background. There are lots of theoretical advantages to 16 bit processing. There are practical reasons that 8 bit is fine for most everything we amateurs do. Photoshop Elements is a strong, capable package, especially when Premier Elements is included. If budget and a dislike for subscriptions are important, there is no real reason to reject Photoshop Elements due to lack of 16 bit processing.

From the description of your desires and as a hobbyist, I suspect PSE 15 will do just fine for your needs. Costco has it for $79.99 (5 - 7 days delivery - online purchase) It's probably available at Costco local store too. You can download it from Adobe (79.99 upgrade) and have a 30 day free, with all features, examination copy as well as a 30 day free trial for all Adobe products.

Elements is probably fine for what you want to do. But you really should look at Affinity Photo. Serif has its act together. They will be taking market share from Adobe!
Heck, buy it anyway. It's under $50, and recently upgraded to 1.5.x on Mac and Windows.
I use the LR+ PS CC package, because my wife pays for it. But I put Affinity Photo on my twin's Macs.

That $9.99 a month plus tax adds up to big bucks over time. Don't forget you can buy lightroom 6 directly for about $145.00. The only difference is that it does not get the updates but is still a great program.

$9.99 is 3 gallons of gas, a six pack of craft beer, a pint of hooch, a couple movies on Netflix, two pounds of beef, one lunch in a cheap restaurant, a fraction of a cell phone bill, a fraction of my internet service. My cameras depreciate faster than $10 a month!! I took my wife to dinner last night and it cost $35!

But, be damned if I'll give up Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge and Adobe Mobile. Once a year I'll buy an annual subscription even if it means putting of a new camera, lens or filter.
