You can't keep them out, but you can know if they've opened it as soon as you see your bag. There are many one-time-use security seals that you can buy & put on your bags. I would photograph anything valuable as it is in the bag, then at check in, photograph the bag with the seal showing. When picking up your bag, if the seal is missing, immediately call the airline rep & demand an onsite inspection. You can show them the bag w/seal photo (having used you phone or pocket camera), & what you've packed inside. If TSA opened it, one of their statement cards will be inside. If no card (&/or something is missing), it's time to contact the police. I suggest starting with the airport police.

I have yet to see a TSA statement card inside my luggage, even when I know they went through it, as they nowadays often don't bother closing the zippers on the luggage after inspection. But then, there's nothing in my check in luggage worth stealing - mostly just clothes! Valuables I always put in my carry on bag which I watch like a hawk.

Are TSA locks accepted, and can they be opened by security, in other countries?

My experience with TSA locks if that they won't take the time to get a key, just cut the lock which defeats the purpose of having a lock. Happened twice and both times I was told that there must have been a problem with the lock for them to cut the lock off. Yeah, right! My experiences with TSA is that half of them are incompetent and poorly trained. They do not make me feel safer at all. Camera gear goes in the cabin with me.

If it were that simple, The TSA and its employees would enjoy an immediate boost if Public Approval.

Why would you worry about someone fiddling around with the combo when all those people that work there have the TSA key. They just use the key and take what they want. Simple as that. I don't trust any of the airport employees anywhere.

I have had issues with TSA and secured (locked by TSA approved padlock) luggage. We had electronic equipment stolen and TSA refused to reimburse us for the cost. I pack everything I can into carry on, doesn't keep them from robbing others but we can't stop it apparently.

TSA is not responsible. The airlines are.

With the price some airlines charge, wouldn't it be better and maybe safer to ship the package by Fedex/UPS/DHL right to your client or hotel?

I'm thinking you might be right if you can afford the cost of shipping. Keep in mind, those freight companies though your shit around like it's a football too. So it better be in a Pelican case with lots of padding.

Stay home and foto USA or Canada. The border is still open there. You can go by car with Passport. Plenty of foto subjects or go out west. Tell the airlines to go tell hell. They are very close, all ready. Sell your airline stock, it's worthless anyway. Talk to your congress person not by phone or email, but go and visit. That visit counts for and against he or she. This is a gov problem and will become worse as we digress into the future.

whats the point here ?
If you check your luggage, the TSA can go through it. Everything is monitored by cameras. Do you really think someone in the TSA is going to steal a camera or laptop ?
And if it is not in luggage - then just put on any lock if you prefer something more secure.

So what is the purpose of this post.

Bullethole,

I use TSA approved numbered key locks on my camera suitcase. Are there any issues regarding those locks?

My experience with using a TSA approved lock is that they just cut it off and put it nicely in my luggage. Nothing missing. I guess they wanted to send me a message.

Agree--these locks are to keep honest people honest. Really, all it would take is a regular pair of diagonal pliers and two seconds to snip through any luggage zipper pulls and the locked lock would be meaningless.

No need to use any tool to open a zipper. A ball point pen will do it. Open the zipper with lock attached. It can then be re-zipped with no apparent entry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5mvvZl6pLI

TSA employees DO steal things. I've seen some videos proving it.

As I said, the TSA did not steal the money, a dishonest employee did. Can you not read?
