Captured at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. I suspect they are juveniles, but I don't know what type.

Probably Im. Black-crowned Night Herons.

The second one might be a juvenile Green Heron.

These juvenile night-herons look a lot alike. The first one is a juvenile yellow-cowned night -heron. The second one is a juvenile black crowned night- heron. Here is how to tell the difference. If the bill is all black, it is a yellow crowned. If the bill has yellow on the bottom, it is a black crowned.

if you took these pictures recently, you really had a good day for photography, with all the wading birds eating fish in the drying down process of the swamp. It has been a real feeding frenzy the last several weeks.

That is great information. Thank you.

Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated. The photos were taken yesterday, and although it was very dry overall, there were still quite a few wading birds around. Also, the barred owl chicks are starting to fledge, and are active. Thanks to all who furnished info.

As I have been telling visitors to the sanctuary, you picked a great time of the year to visit. These dry down periods give everyone a chance to see the wading birds up close. Generally we do not get roseate spoonbills in the sanctuary but for the last several weeks there are usually a dozen on more visible, very close up. And the owlets make great viewing for everyone. I am glad you had a good visit. The unfortunate thing is that when the water is dried up, there is very little to see, except for migrating songbirds, and our daily species count drops dramatically.
