I see that now in zooming. I'm not a digital user, but am around it involved in astronomy. And winter mountianeering. Digital astrophotography uses some very exotic techniques of unsharp masking and such, and it's very common to see artifacts and effects entering the process. ('Photoshop Astronomy", R. Scott Ireland).

Also, I'm pretty sure that's not snow blowing, or other atmospheric items.

Still a mystery and a curiosity, it seems.

The crop with the arrows I posted pointing to the artifact was made from the downloaded photo. (about 8 posts ago.)

I see that, but that doesn't look like artifacts to me.

Still don't know what it is. Maybe something on the lens or the sensor?

Has the RAW file been posted? I see what look like a couple of different jpg conversion artifacts but they differ between the forum image and the download, which is a jpg.

I posted what I was given. I assumed it was a RAW file. At least it was before I posted it. I'll see if I can get Ryan to send me his original RAW file, and I'll post that.

That will probably clear the mystery up.
