A (shoe) shining moment

This shot grew out of a "Hands at work" assignment in our local, informal photo group. I realize that were I seriously shining the shoe--instead of posing it--I'd likely remove the lace, but it seemed to add a bit of interest. A couple of similar treatments. Comments and critique welcome, of course, but you need not vote unless you feel so compelled. Thanks for taking a look!

...love these! Composition in particular, but the processing is good, too. Personally like the color-casted version...

Thanks so much! Not that these break new ground or anything, but there is a certain satisfaction with creating a photo from scratch.

I like the B&W one the best, but they are both interesting.

Can't quite make up my own mind, but thanks for the kind words!

I think the composition is terrific. Really engaging the way you have the shoe and hand take up about equal space, the angle of view, the portrait aspect/orientation. Great (and gritty) details. Congrats on a compelling shot!

Thanks so much, Linda! Your detailed (and kind) comments mean a lot. My first try was a horizontal, and the details and grit came out just fine, but there was too much empty space. So out came the shoe polish again, which of course was not for the shoe...I think most of it's off my hands now....

Many thanks for the kind words (and the lace endorsement)! And yes, I now come down (slightly) on the B&W side, having put that one up on Flickr
