Lightning bug problem

Hello, everyone. I have a problem I'm hoping someone can advise me on.
I recently purchased a lightning bug lightning trigger and used it with pretty good success a couple of weeks ago. That was my first time using it. I tried to use it again tonight and it kinda went haywire. It was continuously tripping the shutter when there was no lightning at all. As far as I can tell, I was using all of the same settings. I tried turning the sensitivity on the very lowest setting but it continued to fire. Even when I put my hand over the sensor. My hope is that I have over looked something, as I am new to this. Maybe I have something set up wrong. I am using a Nikon d80. Manual everything. Have mercy on me and tell me this thing is not broken!

Write to the MFR or call them and ask THEM what to do.

I did. I have. I am awaiting their response. I figured that if it were a common problem, there are likely others who have had experience with it. Or, might have an opinion tha is less bias than the company who made the product.

Oh damn. I thought you had a problem with lightning bugs - I could not figure out what kind of problem anyone would have with these neat little bugs and was interested in seeing this post. Ah...such disappointment. Alas - I have no experience with studio flashes and triggering mechanisms, so I can't help you with your problem. Good luck - and welcome to "the Hog".

Just a wild guess here. The Bug is triggered by the infrared waves that precede the visible light. Is it possible that you're being exposed to unknown heat sources or to infrared from remote controllers, defective microwave or even satellite TV Waves? If you've already tried it at minimum sensitivity, maybe you just have a unit that's over sensitive. This can take years of counseling to overcome, so I recommend return/replace/repair.

Make sure your shutter is set to single shot. These devices can go wild if you are set to any mode of burst shooting.

I was just "gonna" say to check on that, your response confirmed my suspicion (I was suspicious, because I never used a trigger like that, but I wondered if that could be the culprit)!
