My parents went there years back......I have a tiny opal which they bought for me there. fascinating......but I would not want to live anywhere hot.........Melbourne is too hot for me!

Coober Pedy is famous for its opals, as is Lightning Ridge in western NSW. Between them, they produce almost all the world's opals.

Agree but when you consider the ambient temperatures around there you can see why it is cooler underground! This is the area they mine for opals.
