RE: New carryon travel ban of electronics bigger than a cell phone from certain African and ME countries and airlines I need shipping advice

I am taking my camera equipment on vacation next month to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. I must go (and come back) through Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. I cannot change my flights. I have always carried on my equipment but due to the new travel ban from some African and ME countries and airlines (that I must use), I want to ship my camera equipment back to the USA (DHL?) instead of risking damage or loss to the camera equipment. I have looked online and YouTube for hours this morning but am now more confused than ever. I have never shipped camera equipment before, much less internationally. I really need your advice and help. Thank you in advance for any help you offer.

Sharon - Do you have a travel agent? Time for them to earn their fees. /Ralph

Still a lot of confusion but here is the article from the CNN site: http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/21/news/airline-electronics-ban-explainer/

Which devices are banned?
Smartphones will still be allowed in the cabin. But any electronic devices bigger than that will have to be checked in, either with your luggage or at the gate.
That includes laptops, cameras, gaming devices and tablets such as iPads.

Medical devices (and cameras on U.K.-bound flights) will still be allowed in the cabin after security screening.

As far as shipping from overseas -
Depending on the place you are staying, you may be limited to the carrier availalbe - check with them first. Then check with available carrier for rules, customs forms, packing requirements, insurance, and costs.

Remember to have an itemized outbound list of your equipment signed off by customs or you may have an issue about paying duty on imported equipment.
Form 4457: https://www.cbp.gov/document/forms/form-4457-certificate-registration-personal-effects-taken-abroad

Another option is filing a Carnet - it is a passport for your equipment but has costs associated with it.

Enjoy your trip...
