I know most of the pictures posted on here are well composed under perfect conditions but mine are not. They are action shots taken spur of the moment under whatever conditions exist at that time. I don't always capture the perfect picture but I do get some unusual pictures floating along the river. Conditions were poor, distance was long so they are highly cropped but just getting the opportunity to capture these two Pileated Woodpeckers was one of my favorite pictures. By the way, I did not disturb them.

Great capture. Maybe not the best quality, but they are still wonderful photos.

What river were you on? My wife and I love kayaking when we get to the east coast, which is once or twice a year.

It is on Lake Tillery. It comes in as the Yakin River and leaves as the Pee Dee River

Thanks! We visit Hilton Head regularly, because my brother lives there and likes company, and like to kayak around the Island and some of the local tidal rivers. Great place for photography after being in the dry desert mountains here in NM.
We've also kayaked in the Keys, where we'd like to go back again. Cruising out in the flats where the big motorboats can't go is great.

Great photos me and my wife do the same thing on the weekends when possible here in Ohio. I have been using a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX200V just got a new Nikon D500 with several lenses over the winter going to give a hand at that see what happens. We have two Dagger Axis 12.0 and a old "Old Town" canoe what do you use?

Nice. We have them visit occasionally. They make large holes in a tree, and the tree heals itself over time.

I just have a 10' Ascend fishing kayak from Bass Pro Shop. I use a D3200 Nikon with a 70/300 lense. I don't have an expensive camera or lense but still have to be careful in the water.

These guys are SO hard to capture. You did a remarkable job. I'm always 10 seconds too late!!

That is why I keep my camera set in "sport mode". It gives me quick shutter speed with multi frames because sometimes you don't have time to make adjustments. You just have to hope for the best. If time permits, then you can go to manual or whatever.
