After living 21 years in this San Diego house my sister is moving to Arizona. Was visiting this past week. Thought I was at a resort. She and her husband nearly lost it two years ago in a range fire. They call this area "Fire Alley".

What you don't see is the infinity pool, 1,200' shop and aviary. I should have paid attention when I was in school. lol

Below were their avocado orchards until the fire destroyed them. Now all they have is a stump farm.

And then the realtor said, "I'd like to show you a beautiful home in Fire Alley."

Funny you mention that. The realtors two concerns were location and fire insurance.
I asked my sister "if you had lost your house would you have rebuilt here"? She said "yes". That answer surprised me. But it's not out of the norm. Due to a higher than normal amount of rain this past season vegetation has gone wild. More fuel for the next fire.

A friend up here wanted to get extra insurance but couldn't because the house didn't have a fire hydrant nearby.

When they built their home they covered their hillside with icicle plants. My brother-in-law also installed a fire hydrant on their property. When the fires hit their area the fire department used their house as a command station. My sister and brother-in-law moved out and the FD moved in. They have news video from CNN of a helicopter doing water drops on their house and property. Health issues are forcing their move.

Beautiful place. They'll be able to double their sq. footage in AZ.

They bought a house in Chandler, Az. backing up to a golf course. You are are correct. The new house is larger.

More than likely she can sell this house and buy Arizona.

The name of the plant is..... Delosperma cooperi or Ice Plant :) It retains water which probably helped save their house during the fire.
