Hi Hogs,

I don't know if anyone will remember me, it's been a long, long time since I've been on and I'd like to say hello and reacquaint myself with everyone. But, first I have a photography question, of course! Has anyone heard about the rumors regarding Canon's 6DII and if so is it supposed to be any improvement over the 6D? I'm getting ready to go from the 70D to the 6D and then I keep seeing that Canon will be releasing the II in the late spring early summer. I just don't know if it will be worth the wait. Any input anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. And I'm glad I found you all again. Laura

Hi Hogs, br br I don't know if anyone will rememb... (show quote)

I can't really imagine at this point how the image quality of a 35mm DSLR could be improved, except by a quantum leap in sensor technology and processing power. For a real improvement in image quality I think you'd have to go medium format digital, but the price is prohibitive and the files are so large it will take all afternoon to upload a handful of RAW images to your computer. Are they introducing new features that most people don't use anyway?

I'm sure someone here will have the info you need, but I just want to remind u that a 6d is a full frame camera and will only accept EF mount lenses, not EF-S mount lenses like the crop camera.

Thank you for responding to my post. I actually didn't think of it that way and you do make a lot of sense. The price will most likely be at least a third more and how much more could they add. I had the articulating screen with my 70D and rarely used it. You absolutely gave me something to think about. Thanks again. Laura

You're welcome and cheers. I have an issue with manufacturers of consumer products (in this case cameras) that regularly issue updated or "improved" cameras and keep rendering certain features obsolete, thus guaranteeing themselves a steady profit. They all do it. It's called marketing. I always try to justify any expense against the value of what I'm buying, then ask the question "Do I really need it?".

Unless you are in a hurry you may choose to wait, the 5D Mark IV was a significant upgrade to the 5D Mark II, you should expect to see a better focusing system that is improved both for images and video, you can expect a slightly larger sensor, and you should see a significant boost in Dynamic range performance. Canon Rumors has that camera being released in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of this year.

cmc65,
Yes I realize...I've actually have come into some money and I thought it was a good time to move up to a full frame camera and purchase some lenses at the same time. Plus, I have a big b-day a month away, the big 5-0 and I'd like to buy myself a nice present. I'm going to pass down my 70D to my mom that way she will be able to use the lenses I have for that camera and the new lenses I'll buy. Thanks for the info though, much appreciated.

Blurryeyed,
I don't know if I need everything the 5D Mark IV has to offer. I'm still at the enthusiastic stage and still learning. Although I would love to move up to the Mark IV I also think the price might be steep for me because there are about 4-5 lenses I would like to purchase at the same time. I live about 60 minutes from the city and thought I'd drive down to B and H and do a big purchase in mid April. But since I still have time I'll look into your suggestion and maybe change my mind. Thanks for your advice.

Brasspounder001,
You're absolutely correct. But it's been a couple of years since I've purchased a camera and I'd really like to move to a full frame. I don't see me changing from my new camera in the near future so I want to make this purchase count. Therefore, although "do I need it?" Is probably answer with a no, but for me "do I want it?" Is a definite yes!!

So what you are saying is, you have issues with progress, with moving forward. Companies like Canon put a lot of time, effort and money into developing new technologies and refining and improving existing ones. They do this to make money. Why else do you think they are in business. What do you consider 'regular updates'? The EOS 6D was introduced 4 and a half years ago. May I ask, what features of the 6D rendered anything obsolete. My 5D IV is far more advanced than my 6D, yet I still get plenty of use out of my 6D. The 6D II will be a welcome upgrade to a really nice, yet limited, entry level full frame DSLR. If you don't need one and don't want one, then don't buy one.

If you want it and Can afford it, then buy it. I personally have many DSLR'S, not because I needed them but because I wanted them and could afford to buy them. I make my purchases count by using what I buy. I doubt I will be acquiring a 6D II any time soon after it's released, I have no need for it nor do I want one, at this time. My current 6D works just fine and I doubt if the 6D II will out class my 5D IV, although it will probably have a newer processor, the DIGIC 7 vs the DIGIC 6+ used in the 5D IV.

Pay attention to the Canon Rumors website. The 6D II is coming, but if I were you ( as you have described your situation ) I would get the 5D IV.

Good luck

Agree 100% - brass should be introduced to mirrorless cameras. We get very cool new features regularly via firmware updates. They are free!

Will have to wait to hear from Canon but I thought I saw the upgrade from the 6D would be to a new mirrorless in the M series.
