Congress Square in Ljubljana is a block away from the river. It is a very busy place on weekdays. The only way to get a shot without people, which is sometimes desirable, is to go early in the AM. I'm getting the impression that Slovenians are not the earliest of risers. Not slug-a-beds to be sure but there aren't many places open at 7 AM. Or people on the street.
The church toward the background is the Ursuline Church. It was built in the first third of the 18th century. The original bell tower was destroyed in an earthquake at the end of the 19th century and eventually rebuilt.

chaseThanks for commenting. Congress Square is a real gem. The marathon ends here, very lit up during Christmas, and generally bustling during the day. Except in the early morning.

Thanks. The lighting was courtesy of rising sun and periodic waves of very dark threatening clouds. Did not rain and the day turned into a spectacular one later. Am shooting directly west from the gazebo.

Thanks for commenting and thank you for that bit of information. In trying to imagine the gazebo at the upper right hand corner I'd say that the move was a good idea. It has a more prominent position where it is. I took that while making a retreat at the Franciscan Church. Woke very early in the morning and began walking as soon as the sun started coming up.
