Is there a time when aperture-priority is the optimum exposure mode?

I use aperture priority mode when shooting waterfalls while using a variable ND filter. I will set the aperture at either f/16 or 22, find focus, and then darken the filter to the desired level of darkness. I will look at the lcd screen and determine whether or not I need to tweak the settings, but aperture priority in this situation is almost a necessity.

Guess you've ignored all the available discussion about diffraction on modern digital lenses?
