It was well worth the effort.

Thank you. I am going to continue the experiments. They got the attention of the people at photo club.

I've never done a photo stack. I wonder...how did you determine you needed 30 photos? Thanx.

I focused on the cloth just short of the front edge, using live view @ 5X, advanced the focus rail about a mm after each shot and when I had the far edge in focus did one more shot - nothing on the puffball was in focus and neither was the background. I deleted the last frame, and just by accident it was 30 frames. I understand the automated software you focus on the near spot you want sharp, mark it, focus on the far spot you want in focus, mark it, and the software then uses the DOF of your lens setting to calculate the number of shots needed, then proceeds to take those shots on autopilot by actually controlling the focus motor. Makes for less alignment/resizing and I would think just a bit more sharpness than the advancing focus rail method. The app I am looking at "Helicon Remote" only works with Canon and Nikon DSLRs and I believe only with some models.

Many thanx for the education! I'll have to give it a try. I don't do close-ups, but this will/could/should work for other of my work. I appreciate it.

Well, if I even had the patience to try that, with my luck I'd sneeze.... Love the result here, the warm tones, the dark background, and that one little tuft that's trying to escape. Masterful execution and beautiful to view.

When I was putting the puffball on the cloth that one seed fell off, I picked it up and stuck it where it is.
I am turning the puffball for different views, and my yard is busy producing more subjects. Dandelions, White Cow Thistle and Milkweed in the butterfly section.

Thanks very much.
It is a way to kill time while getting brain exercise and learning a new skill. About the time I get good enough to have it right most of the time I will probably lose interest.
