Never understood why people do things like this. We are lucky that they do, and even luckier that somebody photographs the effort. Thanks.

Thanks, Bill. I did not mention that the site is open/free to the public. There is a big pot for donations and a gift shop. I saw Jim talking with someone else out front but did not stay long enough to have a conversation with him.

Me, too. You pose an interesting question(...which I did not think about before I climbed the structure.) I think it has been subjected to some pretty wild natural forces over many years.

Wow. You didn't exaggerate when you said "strange".

Yes...but it does have majesty to it. Thanks, Mathias.

We made a detour last week to see the highly eclectic Bishop Castle on Highway 165 southwest of Pueblo CO. It is a still-growing, nearly 50-year effort by a rugged individualist named Jim Bishop.

I searched UHH and found two other topics about the castle in the past four years, but I am posting shots of individual features that have not been shown here before.

It is a mass of local rock, mortar, and lots of wrought iron staircases and balconies.

I climbed almost all the way to the top of the 160' rear tower, so was able to get some different viewpoints.

The day was overcast which was probably a plus.

Very good photo's the the various parts of the castle Dave. Fun place to visit, I live within a hour and have been going here a few times a year for the past 10 years. Have meet Jim Bishop many times. He has been slowed down by cancer and was in treatment the last time I saw him this past summer.

I envy your proximity. I'd like to have had more time to explore the high areas. Thanks for commenting.

Terrific set of images Dave. That looks like a very fascinating and unique place to visit. I hope all those balconies and stairways are structurally sound.

First shot it looks a bit of a mess, but later shots show a lot of work has gone into this.

Glad you liked them, tbell. It's a bit out of the way but I do recommend it for the adventurous.

Nice captures of the structure. I was there about four years ago and it looks as if there have been quite a few panes added to the stained glass window.

As I said, Jim is still growing it. Thanks, Steve.
