I was wondering if it's worth the upgrade from a Nikon D700 to the D750; I shoot mainly landscapes, birds, etc.

What features on the D750 are you going to use that you don't already have on the D700. The only reason I could see in upgrading is the sensor. D700 - 12MP vs. D750 - 24MP. Oh, the D750 also does video. I have a D700 and find it quite adequate for most everything I'd want to photograph. That said, I purchased a D800e about 8 months ago. That was definitely a step in the right direction.

I would only do the upgrade if you had a need to do so. The D750 is a far superior camera to the D300 in many ways (although it may not be built as well); it's full frame vs DX format, it had twice as many pixels and is years ahead in technology. The D300 is a fine camera; if it is becoming limiting to your shooting, then upgrade; if it is serving all your shooting needs, save the money and maybe use it on some nice new glass if you find the need.

Why are you comparing the D750 to the D300?

Are you dissatisfied with the image quality or features of the D700? One thing I wish the D700 had was dual memory card slots but apart from that I love it.

Because I misread the original post where he mentioned the D700. But in all honesty, the same applies, accept that the D700 is the full frame version of the D300. The D750 is newer and has more pixels with a superior sensor installed.

If you are accustomed to the solid feel of a D700, a pro camera, you may be slightly disappointed with the D750, which is a high end "prosumer" oriented camera. More pixels will let you record more fine detail, but if your lenses have significant flaws, you will see them as the pixel count goes up. I think you'll find that there is a lot to like about the D750. WiFi, tilting preview screen, excellent high ISO low light performance, nice balance between detail capture and noise, AF tracking, etc. I don't care for the missing AF/On button for back focusing, the smaller buffer (compared to the D700), the smaller top LCD (with less information), etc. These were enough to bug me which prevented my replacing one of my D800s with a D750. From an image quality perspective, the D750 is an improvement over the D700.

What the D750 will give you:

Lower and higher ISO
Slightly larger tilting screen
6.5 vs 5 fps
Video
Built in wireless

This is what I read, I don't own the cameras.

Having owned both, I would not switch my D700 for a D750. For a D810, yes.

I'm thinking that the smarter move would be to the D810. Not that threre's anything wrong with the D750, but if you want to stay in the pro level category of cameras, the D810 is hard to beat.

This question was asked about three years ago on Thom Hogan's Web site , several people were wanting to upgrade there d80 ,d90 d7000

and asked Thom what should they get , Thom , said the D300 ,D300s were the better built ones as far as taking more banging around and built like tanks , but the latest technology in the D7200 is way ahead of what's in the D300s , and in Thom's opinion he would pick the
D7200 as the D300 was yesterday's technology, , ,

i hardly used my d700 until lately and found that it is an outstanding camera..i only started to use it when several other pros wanted to buy it and seemed to want it badly..so with that i decided to work with it more lately..hmmmmm..loving it and now can see why ..even with the 12 pixels it seems to have an amazing quality to the images..i also have the d810..love it ..i use the both of them now exclusively for jobs..i use a d7100 for just fun time..
as for the d750 ..i don't like the swivel view finder ..and i don't think it is as good as the d810 that has far more pixels..

You should consider the camera that upgraded the D700, the D800 or D810.

I disagree with this. the 810 is great for landscapes but not great for wildlife or sports. I have the D700 love the camera, but did decide to upgrade to the D750. I love the D750, it is lighter, it has group focus, that I don't think the D700 has, I still use the D700 but not as much as the D750.

I definitely think the upgrade was worth it for me.
