What would our members consider to be the perfect camera in the smaller frame size, eg cross breed a Canon 6Ts and a 7d mark ii.?
What would you add to that design to make you happy enough that you will not be a sucker to buy every update in design.
Would it satisy us if this ideal camera could make a Capuccino on demand. We can add our own Sugar to taste.
I say this to some degree in jest. We always never seemed satisfied. Of course even if it could be defined, no Camera maker would want to build it. They live of our human frailty, We must have the next best. THe standard of cameras today are amazing. That the Camera makers can pack so much in a small frame, is amazing and to do it with a reasonable reliability. So if you can't wait to get rid of todays version for tomorrows do it all, let me know. I have a few spare dollar bills . I dont need an ASA of 20,00 or an aperture of .05, or even a shutter speed from 1 hr to 100/000th of a second. So long the camera is available in Sky blue pink with Chartreuse contrast.
Tomorrow will always be better than today. Enjoy Today

For me a perfect camera would weigh less than 6 ounces, fit in my shirt pocket, and still produce the quality of a full frame high end DSLR.

If we ever stopped at this is good enough , that would have been it , our TV would have stopped six chanels black and white , may have have got to snow and funny colour then good enough , cars would have got to model T ford maybe , good enough , the year you were born
Would have been the same as the year you died even If you were a hundred years old , anything that was good enough would have stopped getting better the day it was good enough , it never changed as much in the last million years as it has in the last 7 0r eight hundred years
Ago , we would become extinct if all these machines we see on the show how it's made were to fail some how , the food that's made and packaging there in, from bread to corn flakes etc , eggs to meat , we would not manage with out automation of packing ,mixing, boxing,
In other words living on borrowed time ,

I wrote the question, with somewhat tongue in cheek. True progress is great but when Companies feel they must produce new products every year, they cater to our frailty. Must have the newest. Look at the Cell phone business. Because of updates an older phone generally can perform as the latest version.
I dont call changing the color scheme or the radius of the corners progress.
We photographers have been blessed with a profusion of designs and abilities. I have some of the latest cameras, yet get such great pleasure using Cameras such as The Canon SD 1000. 7 mpx. THe design is one that belongs in museums.
I felt so many discussion on UGH are nit picking. Canon vs Nikon etc. They all will take great pictures if you, the photographer can . A grat photo does not lie in its ability to define a hair, but in the image and its impact on the viewer.
Enough of my pontificating.

My camera settings are important to me. As a senior, I occasionally change a setting and forget to change it back. My cameras will save all my settings to a card, but if the card gets reformatted the settings are wiped. A more perfect camera will save my settings to flash memory and will have a two-button reset to restore MY settings (similar to, but separate from the two-button factory setting reset). Further, it will have a menu item to enable reset on power-up.

Actually, I suspect this is possible to implement on current cameras by a firmware update.

Let's get them (whom ever them might be, Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc?) to make one like this with interchangeable lenses that would fit in the other pocket! :-) !!

Cutting weight has to be a high priority. Does anyone know of advances in focusing light that would not require high-quality glass?

What would our members consider to be the perfect ... (show quote)

I've got my perfect camera about 50 years ago (still have it), but it is a movie camera. Back then I could not afford an Arri, but I do have a Beaulieau R 16 , which is a nice camera, but I always liked the 8mm better (mostly handling ). I also have a Bolex reflex classic in double super 8, have a Beaulieux 4008 ZM4 and had a Leicina special, that one came close to be a perfect camera, but the perfect one for me was and is the Fujica ZC 1000. It can do anything and everything you can think of. It has no automation of any kind, you have to set everything manually, but that is a part of its greatness. It can use virtually any lens there is, you can attach it to microscopes, endoscopes, pretty much anything there is. It has plenty of recording speeds(forwards and backwards), it allows setting different shutter speeds at all recording speeds, you can set a lot of shutter speeds when shooting single frames (incl. bulb), it has a huge array of accessories made just for it, you can even attach a winder, so you can transport the film by hand! It has one of the highest speeds for slow motion in 8mm cameras and the list could go on and on!!! So yeah, that is a camera that I just love, its just too bad, that it has become ssooooo expensive to shoot movie these days (I really can not afford it any more).

About the size of the Canon M5. But change the laws of physics and get large aperture and long lenses, f1.8 and larger and 135mm and longer, into small light packages. Can't be done but would be nice. And keep the FF sensor size.

My camera would have a sensor the size of a Hasselblad, lighter than a small point and shoot with eye automatic focusing system, tilt lens built into the camera, light sensitive matching my eye, have unlimited HDR up to 20 stops, and cost less than a dollar.
