These are my first uploads and I'm open to any suggestions for improvements. These were shot with a Canon 70d with kit lens.
Congratulations on your first post. Hopefully this will be just the start of a lot of fun for you. These seem well exposed and sharp. I really like them. I don't know how much you cropped but that is one thing I might have done differently. The Heron is missing the tip of his tail and his legs. Likewise, the gator is missing the tip of his nose. In the gator shot it kind of works for me. It puts a lot of focus on the eyes. You're off to a very good start!
Welcome to UHH! Nice shots! Sharp and well exposed. I'll echo what Carol said. I might have cropped them a bit differently. I might also suggest, if you have the option to be able to move around your subject, consider your backgrounds when composing your shot. They can be a tremendous asset to the overall image. With the Heron, your image is easily sharp enough that I might consider a close crop of the head and neck to avoid having the distracting muddy ground behind the bird. If you really want to set off your subject, assuming the background is not part of the subject, a nicely blurred background with complimentary colors can do wonders. The gator is a nice sharp image. I like how the neck/head is sort of arching out of the water. Very nice. Great start! I look forward to seeing more of your work here in the future
