Thank you Bill. The bird was high enough to catch the early light. The background is water with foliage reflections. The bank was blocking the sun so the background stayed dark. I was a little higher than the bird and shooting down to some extent.

Thank you. I'm pretty sure it is a Tricolored Heron based on size and markings.

Thank you Bob. My favorites change regularly but these are recent ones where I was able to identify why they appealed to me. It helps me know what to look for going forward.

Super-enjoyable series, Carol! #1 is breathtaking, with that perfect light on a perfect pose. The clarity and exposure are outstanding.
