At a church rummage sale, I picked up a Canon AE-1p, 5 lens (2 good Canon lens) and a good flash unit for a few bucks.
One of the lens is an Adorama 70-200mm macro f4.5 MC zoom lens made in Japan.
Anyone ever hear of one???

I'm guessing it's very old. It's sounds like Adorama had a lens maker produce lenses with their company name on them. Google was no help. Can you post a picture of it?

May I ask the rummage price of the AE-1p? I have 3 AE-1's. If you don't mind--thanks

Back in the day a lot of stores (like SEARS, JCPenney, etc.) carried lenses branded for their store - different manufacturers made these lenses and simply slapped the store name on them. I suspect it would be something like that with Adorama as well. Some of these lenses (depending on who made them) were better than others.

I'd like to help ID it - can you please email me: Helen@adorama.com with an image?

This is an old lens and we sold somewhere about 1990
Most of them were like an add on sale to a lens kit that came with a 35-70mm lens and is 70-210mm
We had them made for us; this is canon FD mount .
The lens is rather heavy – since it contains good glass.

Kind of looks like a Vivitar Series-1 lens with that 70-210 range. Would that be the mfgr? Just curious!

Go Helen! Great to have your presence to dig into the details. A good recommendation for Adorama to provide detail on a twenty or thirty or more year old lens.

No - Vivatar was not a manufacturer
They sourced the lens - Vivatar used more than one manufacturer for making their lenses

Exactly. Just like Rokinon and others (including Vivitar) still do with Samsung lenses and others. A distribution brand, not a manufacturer...

At the time I bought my Vivitar lens, a 75-205 close focusing lens, Vivitar and Soligor were probably the two most advertised off brands that I can think of. Do you have any idea who manufactured their lens for them? Again, just curious. I'm curious about a lot of things!

I'm sorry; you've got everything I could find!

It looks like my Canon FD lenses, I bought 4 on eBay from different sellers for about 50 bucks; bought adaptors and use them on my SONY a7 and Samsung NX30; manual focus, tack sharp...
