I have been lurking on this site for quite awhile, and have liked it so much that I have finally decided to join the conversations as more than just a lurker. I am not new to photography, but am far from being an expert. Most of my experience has been with film, but I started enjoying the instant gratification of the digital world a few years ago with a Nikon D80. I just upgraded to a Nikon D7200, and now find myself in search of some new software that can process the NEF's from the D7200. My very old Photoshop CS3 program does not have a camera raw capability for the D7200, and I am reluctant to spend the big bucks for a new Photoshop or Lightroom license.
If anyone has suggestions on alternate post processing programs, I would welcome your advice and comments on using them.
Thanks, and I am looking forward to much more enjoyment with the hedgehogs!

welcome to UHH. I would suggest Lightroom. It is a great program to manage and manipulate raw images. I use it and it does 90 percent of what I need to do before I go to Photoshop.
I did not want to pay monthly cloud charges with Adobe cloud, so I purchased from B&H the DVD. I own it.

If you like Photoshop, the CC program for Photoshop and Lightroom is a fair deal at $10.00 per month. You get Photoshop, Lightroom, and Raw, plus you keep upgraded at no extra charge.
Welcome
LightRoom and Photo Shop rent as a set for $9.99 a month and you get all upgrades.
LR can be bought on disk or you can get Photo Shop Elements on disk then for $12 you get an app called Elements+ and you have almost all of the features of Photo Shop.
Or you can go to Corel's Paint Shop Pro Ultimate and After Shot Pro (their answer to LR) on disk for less than $150. Plus a few freebies thrown in.
Welcome to the forum. I'll second the Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC for $9.99 a month.
Lightroom 6 is a deadend and will never be updated. The twisted creative geniuses at Adobe make the $10/mo well worth it. With a D7200 you've paid what $800 to $1200? That's 7 years, on average, for Adobe Creative Cloud.

Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC
Welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the HOG. I had the full PhotoShop most of my life, but now use PhotoShop Elements and it does everything I need.
Welcome to the forum. The best free software, IMHO, which will process your NEF files is Faststone. I use it for basic editing.
