I'm told hot sauce on the seed will keep them away, but I haven't tried it myself. My feeder is on a shepherds hook with a cone on the pole and that seems to work. If seed ends up on the ground I figure the squirrels can have it. I also used to put out dry corn on the cob for the squirrels and they were not so interested in the bird feeder then. :)

I was told mixing red hot pepper flakes would keep the squirrels and larger birds from a tube feeder I put up to attract smaller birds. Despite mixing a large amount of the red pepper, the squirrels and quite a few larger birds seemed to enjoy the feast I served them.

I liked the photo, Samantha.

They are cute critters, but annoying, in the summer we play a game with them, they raid the bird feeder and I play "Shoot the Squirrel" with the water hose, they get very cagey after a wetting or two, increases the challenge, and does not hurt them and makes them more selective.

I have had an ongoing war with these rascals for years now! I solved the seed feeder issues by greasing the roof gutter edges as the squirrels were just hanging upside down by their hind legs & getting the seeds. Now they fall to the ground & get up & try again! Run up the tree jump to the roof, hang then fall, run up the tree again.

They have won the suet basket in the tree however...if I quietly get out my front door & run around the corner yelling like a banshee I can almost grab him (I won't really though) I get so close! then he has to climb my fence & scamper like the dickens to get away. That method lasts for exacty 1.35 days! LOL...

OP great pics of your robber! My robber has a thick bushy gray tail & white underparts, must be hotter there in Texas than Oregon here.

Nice shots. I bought a squirrel-proof feeder years ago. When the squirrels jump onto it the feeder tray closes and they can't get to the seed. It took a while, but they finally learned it wasn't worth their effort.

Great capture Sam. You might have to give him a feeder of his own. LoL.

They are fun to watch but they are shrewd. They will try everything to
get at that bird seed.

Thanks everyone one for taking a peek and commenting. I have a squirrel resistant feeder in the back yard. I enjoy watching the frustrated little varmints trying to get into it.
