Using Nikon VR with a tripod

I saw the post today about IS and the link to what Canon supposedly had to say about using IS when using a tripod. Since there have been many other posts on UHH about whether or not VR, IS, or OS should be used when using a tripod, with many different opinions from fellow Hogs, I decided to post this link from Nikon's website regarding tripods and VR use. According to the info on this link, Nikon does have a "Tripod Mode" on a few of their lenses. Some, if not many of you may already have seen this or know it, but I thought maybe it would help others that have not seen it and have questions about it. Enjoy.

Thanks for posting. I'm sure that you read some of the other interesting articles by navigating around your link. Should raise some questions from a few!

Till now Nikon has recommended VR off when the camera is on a tripod. They have introduced new modern technologies by which VR is capable of compensating for movements of a tripod. Notice they only have three lenses under that category and I bet they are super expensive.
Carbon fiber tripods are well know for suppressing vibrations. If the mirror is locked up then the influence of the mirror vibrations is eliminated. Some cameras, like those made by Olympus, are using an electronic first curtain to eliminate vibrations at certain speeds. Those cameras are mirrorless.
My VR lenses are switched off when I use a tripod and none of them are modern VR technology. Shooting landscapes or still subjects the mirror is usually set to up to further eliminate vibrations. Good tripod techniques go a long way when it comes to sharp pictures. I often use a cheap Dolica tripod even with my heavy dSLR and lenses but using good tripod techniques the images are perfectly fine. By the way, my Dolica tripod weights a mere 2.5 lbs. and I can extend it (not using the center column) to about 55 inches which happens to be around 60 when I have my Linhof ballhead on it. By the time the camera is on the Arca Swiss style plate I do not have to bend over to look through the camera's viewfinder. The little tripod is a breeze to carry while traveling since it is so light weight although the ballhead adds another pound of weight to it.
VR is very convenient but expending extra money just to keep it on while on a tripod is something that requires some thought, at least on my part.
