My wife and I are staying in Deerfield Beach, Florida for 4 weeks.
(Deerfield Beach is north of Fort Lauderdale, south of West Palm Beach- immediately south of Boca Raton.)
We've been coming here for a number of years, and I've done lots of photography of places that are within an hours drive.
(So far it's been mostly nature photography.)
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some interesting places to shoot that would not be listed in the various tourist brochures.
(I am hoping to take photos this time at some of the businesses that sell "classic" cars.)

I'm surprised to hear that after so many years of traveling to our beautiful state you have not gotten away from the tourist's common grounds. Talk to the locals, they'll point you on the right direction.

Chamber of Commerce. They'll be happy to help.

Try the Japanese museum and grounds in Boca.

Have you tried any locations long the Intracoastal Canal? Some of the restaurants are right on the canal. You can have lunch or dinner & watch the boats go by.
If you want to take a boat ride you can board the Miss Delray off Atlantic Avenue in Delray. It goes down into Boca or up to Manalapan.
Also, the Boynton Inlet.

I forgot you mentioned classic cars.
There's a program on the Velocity network called, "South Beach Classics." The owners name is Ted Vernon. He's quite. Character. Anyway, he deals in classic cars. I will try to get there next time I have time.
Of course he's in South Beach Miami. You can probably do a Bing or Google search to get the address.

Thanks, Indi.
You know something I love to photograph even more than classic restored cars, is classic UNrestored cars- still resting in a salvage yard.
Does anyone know of a "junkyard" in the area that still has some old cars? I love the cars from the 50's, 40's and 30's.

Yup real wild life there...

Saw a woman with three body guards, a porn actress that had 2x2 gallon jug breasts... Ugly.

The noise there is also... Interesting. Had a druggy swore that such an old goat (me) should not be with a pretty young woman (a young friend of mine ~ 28). It was 8:00 am.

You can find fleeting mutants too. Young things (18, I hope) in diminutive outfits gliding on roller while a (hired) photographer pursued them...

One could really pass a lifetime documenting the weirdness in this area but also the real life behind the facade... Cramped small apartments, poverty as well as 'underground' artists and really nice interesting individuals who really keep this city alive.

I lived in Delray Beach for 10 years in the late 70's - early 80's.
Had a wallpaper & blinds business & occasionally had to go to Liberty City. Never went to South Beach, though.

Green Cay in western Delray, the Japanese Gardens and some of the old architecture in the older downtown section of Boca Raton is lovely, with their pink walls and barrel tiled roofs. Lots of big yachts in the various marinas and sunrise on the ocean.

Lots of photo ops. Drive all the way to Key West and spend a day or two. Once you are past Homestead, it is a nice drive, some good restaurants and Key West is a Photographer's dream.

Thanks, bdk.
We did do the Everglades tour about six years ago when we first started coming to Florida- that was interesting and exciting.
There is a lovely Arboretum in Deerfield Beach that I visit every year.
The fishing pier is about a quarter mile south of us. I've photographed it many times- mostly at night-time.
(I've never actually gone out on the pier to take photos from the pier.)
This year I've got a new 8 mm lens that I hope will produce some interesting photos of the pier.
We've never done the Fort Lauderdale water taxi, but plan to do it this year.

Thanks, Elliern.
I've photographed the "old" city hall in Boca Raton with its distinctive gold dome.
I have a habit of photographing the sunrise EVERY morning while I'm here (unless it is pouring rain).
I had not heard of Green Cay Wetlands in Boynton Beach. It is less than 30 minutes from here,
so I will be sure to go there! Thanks for the tip!
