Made my first trip out to Deerfield, MA to shoot these Butterflies.

I have to say that their selection is much more diverse selection of butterflies, as well as some other inhabitants, including a turtle, some giant cock roaches, a very friendly Parrot, a few lizards or reptiles, and several others of interest to kids when they lose interest in the butterflies.

My only other experience with butterflies were two visits to the Butterfly Place in Westford, MA.

The physical plant where the butterflies are housed at Magic Wings in Deerfield is at least 4 to 6 times larger than the Butterfly Place. Yes it was warm in both places, but for me personally, it was much more comfortable at Magic Wings.

I would highly recommend a trip out to Magic Wings, which is open year round, just check their website for times and restrictions. They absolutely prohibit tripods, monopods, and any kind of food or drink inside of the Butterfly House at Magic Wings. You can arrange for a special hour either before or after the normal hours for special access during which tripods and monopods can be used, but these need to be prearranged in advance to ensure that they have sufficient staff coverage.

Also, they do have a snack bar, and places to sit and eat or drink out in an atrium area.

These shots are literally straight out of the camera, I've done absolutely no editing on them.

These are stunning shots! Very crisp and detailed, especially in the downloads. My favorite is the shot with the white orchid, one of my favorite flowers. What a wonderful place to visit and spend the day.

I struggle to get decent shots of orchids. I don't know why they're so hard for me to shoot. I can't seem to get them into focus, or I end up with too short of a depth of field. This has been going on for two years now.

I wished that I could have spent more time there, but my passenger has a very limited amount of time that she can spend on her feet, before her feet hurt so much that she has to get off of them, because she can't walk another step.

I would have liked to have taken a break for a snack, and then gone back in to shoot some more. I had hit my mental wall, and my back was starting to tell me it was time to sit for a little while.

I wish that I had ended up with a better success rate, but I was struggling with the lighting conditions that were constantly changing every time that I walked a few feet, or turned in a different direction!

I had my ISO cranked up higher than I prefer to shoot at, so that a lot of my shots were grainy or contained too much noise! I prefer to shoot at or under an ISO of 400 with my Canon Rebel T5, but I found that in order to get a fast enough shutter speed that I was using an ISO of 1600 or 3200 most of the time!

I understand your frustration with the orchids. They have so many layers, not "flat-faced" like daisies. That's why we keep on shooting, to get it right. You did a great job with your shot!
