Food for thought: To be the very best in any athletic endeavor is very difficult indeed, especially now with ever increasing numbers competing at the highest levels. But be the one athlete to leap the highest, have precise balance and hyper-flexibility, and keep perfect harmony with choreography in complete synchronization other performers. While at the same time maintain a healthy, slender, muscular, flawless body and look impeccably beautiful, graceful & elegant during every performance? All this is seemingly impossible and is breathtaking to behold.
This is something only angles could accomplish until there was ballet. Simply ask any athlete, man or woman (they're out there), who has done more than a year or two of ballet classes. There's nothing more difficult... Ever!

Presented here is a ballerina soloist with the European Ballett Saint Polten (originally from Austria) who began her dance career at age three. After graduating college with a degree in professional classical ballet she joined the aforementioned company in its Corp de ballet and later went on became a principal and soloist with same.

I had the privilege to collaborate with her where she effortlessly preformed far beyond anything I believed humanly possible... seriously!
That said she also helped me immensely with my Yoga practice which to this day I have benefited far more than the many years with all other instructors...

Enjoy...

Thank you for your kind words Don... I'm pleased you found the lighting schematic of merit...
And yes I will consider same on future posts where germane...

Also thank you raymondh and kakel60 I certainly appreciate that you took the time to reflect and respond...

Brent, many thanks and yes I've done this particular scenario more than a few times in as I'm a devoted fan of ballet...

"...I would love to see more of your ballet photos. Thanks in advance!" Brent your wish is my command...

What follows is a session with a talented young Chinese ballerina (Natillie) who is currently enrolled in Boston University's Dance Minor Curriculum.
The illumination scenario and Kit are basically the same as the initial image albeit I was extremely fortunate to have a tenured lighting assistant (Madhusudhar) who worked reflectors and flags with considerable finesse... Kudos to the entire team for making this shoot happen...

Wardrobe: (prét-á-porter)
Pink Leotard/Tutu by Nom de Plume, New York
White Leotard by balera Dance Wear, Saint Louis
Golden Babydoll Dress (Kimchi Blue) by Urban Outfitters

Note: Imagery here is a tad more "Stylized" as per client request...
Hope this meets expectations...

Thomas, you are in the elite top 2% of all the UHH members because of the quality of your photos. I'm surprised you have time to even post photos here. I would think you would be constantly busy with paying clients with the work you produce. You are a master in your specific field. Thanks for sharing your work with us "little people"! You certainly do inspire us! It's also very nice of you to show your lighting diagram so we can learn from you. Thanks so much.
