I can't stand this creature. I know it has it's place in the overall scheme of things, but man, could it be any uglier? Eye is covered with nictitating membrane in second shot.

@400mm 1/1250 sec wide open at F 5.6 ISO 200

In post shadows lifted for under wing and cropped slightly for composition.

Would love to have one sit on my gate posts. The red headed ones are the best, the black headed ones are some what destructive in that they peck at roofs and car parts. and they claim the turkey vulture is the best flyer of all the birds.

You know, it's not everybody who gets winked at by a Vulture.

I think they are among the most graceful flyers in existence. When in flight they are truly beautiful. Your pics do them justice.

It's a turkey vulture, and I think he is beautiful!

If the medical people would follow this bird closer and find out why it can eat the most vile rotting flesh and then crap out almost sterile waste the world might be a better place.

Your photos are spot on. I think your new lens past its test.
I think these birds can soar, glide and fly with such grace. second only to the white pelican

They are very important. Natures clean up crew. We have a lot of them. Were it not for scavengers they would be rotting caracasses all over.

Nice shots Fullframe. They aren't very attractive but do the job they were put here to do.

Great photos of these magnificent creatures! Where I live the county won't clean up roadkill, but these birds do a great job of it.

You've got a great capture of the fingers on the wings. They have a certain majesty whether roosting or in flight.

Very nice capture. Was it shot in M...if not how many stops did you increase brightness & what focus mode.
