I just built Win 10 system that I will put against anything Apple has to offer. I'm a retired tech and have repaired both Apple's and PC's and built a lot of PC systems over the years. At one time Apple had the edge for professional users but not today. I use a Vaio Canvas to do both photographic post production and art work. I can draw right on the screen using Photoshop or any other drawing or photo software. My main system that I just built is faster and more versatile than any Apple available today. Just compare Apples with the new Surface pros and each of their capabilities.

I am using Lightroom for the file management, I am not sold on Apple, I see so many pro photographers use the Mac, will I be able to collaborate with those using Mac's easily?

Agree. Macs are fine (and I have one), but you can build a more powerful Windows 10 machine for substantially less money with more options for future upgrades. This is a classic argument, so expect lots of vociferous opinions on both sides.

I've been a Mac user for decades, and just bought a PC exclusively for gaming and photography use. All things considered I think Macs are simply better, but I wanted this machine for games and Apple really doesn't offer anything suitable for high-end gaming. I will try it for photography and doubt there will be much difference between the two since I use an Eizo ColorEdge monitor with hardware calibration. The computer is just something to hold and manipulate the files' digital code while the monitor is the key component.

Paris, I was a windows guy for 20 plus years. Last year I bought a MacBook Pro and love it. Since then I have added also a IMac 27". I have no regrets switching.

Consider:

Also consider storing your Lightroom files on a external drive with a back up on another external drive.

I use Lightroom v5.7 (non CC) as well as (recently) On1 Photo Raw on a MacBook Pro. I also use a mobile version of Lr on an iPad Pro. Have not experienced many problems without a quick solution. System is a matter of personal choice. Good luck.

Although Macs and PCs typically use different file systems (though there are FSs that can be read/written by both), The image file itself (whether JPEG, raw, TIFF, PNG, or...) is the same on either platform and can be shared between platforms.

Mac has a great screen, but I could not find any Apple software that allowed me to view my photos more than one photo at a time without loading them into their photo program, then needing to delete them once I viewed them. With windows, you may scan through an entire folder with Photos without needing to load them into a special program then deleting after viewing. I do not know if that makes any sense until you go through the process, but hopefully it helps. Bottom line, my preference is Windows. Tried the Mac and ended up giving the laptop to my daughter and buying a Dell gaming system, the Alienware.

Apple's "Finder", which is how you navigate the computer, does the same thing, with a slider to adjust thumbnail size.

Thanks, I have a 4gb harddrive backing up files now, The Mac I was looking at the other day was the IMac 27, very impressive, feature wise it seems to be the best bang for the buck unless you are gaming .... Which takes time away from shooting and editing, the only joystick I want to play with resides on the back of my Canon 7DmkII

My Mac's outlast my wife's HP's by a long shot. The iMac I bought 8 years ago still works just fine, and the MacBook Pro I bought 3 years ago is still working fine. My wife has replaced 2 HP's in that same time period. Her desktop has a touchscreen that she absolutely loves. She will never switch to Mac and I will never go back to Windows.
There is a great slide show program called ProShow Gold. As far as I know they still don't have a version for Mac. I am thinking about getting a Windows computer so I can use that program.
I have only had one virus and Apple had me download Malwarebytes Anti Malware and it took care of it. So if you get a Mac you should consider installing it.

I've been a Mac user for 6 to 7 years now and I wouldn't want to go back. I've used Windows 10 PCs and they're OK, but it's just not the same. For most people, Macs will be more stable, less hassle installing peripherals, virtually no virus issues (I think there less than 100 - most of us don't even bother running AV software), no forced updates, and frankly the hardware lasts longer than your typical PC (custom builds a notable exception). They have their issues and they are not perfect, but overall I do like them better - for now :)

I know the windows users always argue the pure performance numbers, but comparing computers simply on speed and not the whole package is like comparing cameras based only on megapixels.

I used to have a Mac many years ago, changed to PC and I'm a happy camper.
