never heard of that one, but if you want one that works well, try the Nissin i40.

Yes. This is a rebranded Mieke. I use it regularly and am very happy with the results. Not as happy with the control panel. Not as intuitive as it could be. But the darn thing works well.

It does have one weirdness. When I put Enelop batteries in it, it reads only half-full. They work perfectly otherwise. I went online and found that this was common. But it has no other negative effects.

Speed lights have one thing in common . . . harsh light. To overcome this bad feature one has two choices . . . bounce the light from walls and/or ceilings . . . or add a quality flash modifier/diffuser/reflector. Both of these remedies require two features that are not satisfied with this particular speed light. It has too little power to be effective with the inherent light loss of bouncing or modifiers, and the 170 degree limitation on the horizontal swivel would make it not effective for bouncing or many modifiers. For example, here is a flash modifier that needs a full 190 degree swivel to be effective . . .

I am glad you mentioned that about the Eneloop batteries doing that on your Meike flash. I have a Meike flash for my Nikon that does the same thing, shows the batteries are only half power. I though the batteries were not fully charging, but they are.

I have had several flashes with a built-in diffraction grating that can slide down over the light. The stated purpose is to allow the flash to work better with very wide angle lenses, but I've found that it also reduces harshness of the light when I cannot bounce the light. Does this flash have anything like that?

I don't know if the model you are looking at has the diffuser panel, but even if it does, it makes little difference compared to a good modifier or bouncing.
