Crichmond Loc: Loveland, CO

Not sure what to title this image. It reminds me of a departed day, when things were much better, but long since gone and left in ruin.

This is the remains of the old assay office up Minnie Gulch outside Silverton, CO. In its heyday (the 1880's), millions of dollars in gold and silver were extracted from the mines. They fueled construction of lavish hotels and ornate homes that were occupied by Silverton's law-abiding and respectable citizens. Not far from Minnie Gulch were dance halls, brothels and saloons all frequented by miners and ruffians.

The large concrete object to the left is the old assay safe, where valuables were store for safe keeping.

This is an interesting shot, and I like it. There is some nice detail in the download. Too bad this historical old building was allowed to go into ruin. But, I would love to get my paws on some of that old wood.

The Silverton, Colorado area is rife with historical buildings. Some have been preserved, some restored, and some left to decay. The law does forbid the removal of such artifacts, but sadly, many have not heeded that injunction. Many archaic treasures are no longer available to the public, for they have fund homes in some unknown visitor’s basement. That too is sad.
