Ok, tonight I went totally old school.
Canon 7D and Tamron 150-600mm hand held bracing my back on a post.
ISO 200 f/10 full 600mm focal at 1/250 second just after sunset.
Tweaked and played with a little bit in the uncropped and more so in the cropped shot.

Oldschool Rules!

Traveling light as it were. Without all the weight of the usual Astro trappings; scopes, mounts, finders, guilders, alignments, EPs, CCDs, cables, battery pack(s), cool down times, etc., etc.

Nicely done!

Amazingly sharp Jim!
I like it.

I didn't like it at first, because I don't consider the Tamron as 'Old School'.
But, hand held, fence post braced, holding your mouth just right....
By guess and by golly.

Great shot!

Much better than what I was able to get with my Tamron 150-600mm.
And my settings were almost identical too. A matter of better focusing.

Thanks Craig but 5200 feet higher helps an awful lot. Not nearly as much junky air to shoot through.

Thank you Sonny.
Don't forget holding your breath.
Nearly passed out.
