I'm trying to decide between an Opteka IF500 and a Sony HVLF20 flash for my NEX-6. Anyone have an opinion on which is best?

Sony has a reputation for being very proprietary minded. As such, I've found that the best equipment to interface with a Sony camera is Sony equipment. This is an opinion formulated years ago. Sony may have changed, but I'd still lean towards Sony equipment and not mix and match.

That is true Bob except on the NEX line and the newer a6000, a6300 and a6500, just about any flash will work, I use a vintage Minolta flash on mine, I would pick the Opteka because of the price, But I would bet the Sony is a better built flash.

The nex6 has a standard hot shoe, not the different Sony Minolta style.

I used the Sony 20 and it is a waste of money. Woefully underpowered.
don't know anything about the the Opteka. Look at the Nissin i40 which is what I use now. Much better performance. If you want to buy my Sony 20 (used 3 times) send me a message and I will make you a good deal.

Rick,

I would consider buying your strobe. Please quote me a price including least cost shipping as I am on a budget and don't need a real strong strobe.

Thanks,

Bill
