My husband was reading the paper yesterday and just happened to look up and saw this coyote taking a stroll. He got lucky when the coyote stopped and looked at the house.

Sure you are being sarcastic. We like to hear them sing in yard many nights. Our dog is not as positive on them.

Not sarcastic at all--they are killers of practically anything they can get their teeth into. I know many people who have had their cats and dogs killed by these critters, even in broad daylight.

Coyotes are not as cute as my hound dogs, and my dogs howl as well. Would you prefer a wolf in your back yard? But Canids ugly, never. Even hedgehog are kind of cute.

I keep a wolf tag and rifle handy to protect our yard elk.

Coyote are nothing like wolves. Or vice versa. Our GSD could handle one or two Coyote. Not a wolf.

Yes, they almost got our neighbor's rat terrier one night. Unfortunately it got away.

Which is too bad because the little POS bit me three times.

I agree. Unfortunately Coyotes, being infinitely adaptable, have inserted themselves into most urban areas.

One thing, your Coyote looks bigger and redder than the ones you see in Los Angeles.

I did not know they are in urban environments.

I recently did a little research on their colors and sizes because someone on UHH posted one that looked more like the standard grey wolf coloring (wolves vary too). I learned both color and size vary a lot. There are even some black ones.

Average size varies with environment. In most of Idaho, where living is relatively easy, average size is about 35 pounds. In Yellowstone park, where only the strong survive the winter, average size is closer to 50 pounds. Alas the wolves consider Coyotes a nice lunch so their population there has suffered in recent years.

In the LA metro area coyotes have not only attacked and eaten pets but they have attacked and in at least one case killed a toddler playing in a yard.

A year or so ago there was a news article about a very large one that jumped a fence into a yard where a toddler was playing with the family's 4 little Jack Russells (all under 20 lbs). Those little Jacks went after the coyote to keep it away from the child. Two of them were killed and the other two badly hurt, but they killed the coyote. Then took up guard positions until someone came for the child.
