Hi everyone. Need help from Nikon people. Thought I would ask here first since I was going thru the site anyway. I like this site as it is helpful for not only my questions, but reading about other peoples questions that I may not have thought of yet, or related to my camera. So, anyway.... sort of inherited some camera equipment stuff and came across this Nikon HN-9 lens hood. made of steel, lol, prob from the 80's since some of the cameras (Canon's) are 35mm. tried to look it up on local camera store website. not there. I think I did look for it, but will try again on Nikon's website. (under archived) still couldn't find it. I am curious what lens this lens hood went on. thank you all in advance.

Wouldn't they fit any lens with the same filter size?

Yes. But if they are not the right design there could be vignetting, or the shade could fail to do its job.

The filter size really does not matter, what matters most is the focal length it's made for!!!!
Besides the 28 f/3.5 PC, it’s for the 20 f/3.5 Non-AI Nikkor (72mm thread). The HK-6 hood is for the 20 f/3.5 AI and AIS Nikkors (52mm thread).

It won’t work very well on a Zeiss Distagon T* 18mm F/3.5 ZF.2 or Zeiss Milvus 21mm f/2.8 ZF.2, with their 82mm filter threads!

Even if it had 82mm threads it would not work very well on those lenses!
Several are lookig for that hood to complete their collection.
FYI, back in the day Nikon would sometimes offer choice of several different lens hoods for any given lens. The letters in the model name give a hint to the type of hood:
HB – Bayonet mount hood.
HE – Extension hood for long lenses that already have a hood.
HK – "Kabuse" or slip-on lens hood that locks using a knob.
HN – "Nejikomi", or screw-mount lens hood, typically metal or rigid plastic.
HR – Rubber lens hood, usually screw mount.
HS – Clip-on lens hood. Attaches to lens similar to some lens caps.

Interesting. It always seemed they just pulled model designations out of thin air.
Thanks!
