I looked out the window by my computer and saw this Leopard Moth. It was starting to get dark out and even though I was crying my eyes out because I had totaled my car two days prior, I still picked up my camera and tried to get as good of a shot as I could have. I did shoot this in Raw because I was desperate to capture him. Shooting Raw on my Coolpix takes forever. You might as well sing the Jeopardy song while you wait for the camera to process. I never use Raw unless whatever I'm photographing is totally stationary and I have extra patience available at the time :-)

Cheryl, you might try posting again. Your picture didn't post for some reason. I hope this has been a while back and you didn't just total your car!!

Hi Donna,

OK - I must have messed up somehow. I'll try again. When I try to attach it, its saying its a non-image. I'm not sure why because its a Jpeg.

Here it is :-) I've seen their caterpillars too. Maybe I'll be able to take a picture of one with summer.

The car accident was last July 5th on my way to work, I was cut off and then an 18 wheeler almost hit me. It scared the truck driver so much he stopped too even though he wasn't the cause of the accident. It was a bad one.

Thank you Sx2002. I'll have to get a shot of the caterpillar. They're very spiky. I was just shook up badly. I was lucky, there is no doubt about that!

Thanks Angela!! I was just so desperate to get a shot of this moth that I switched my camera to RAW. I had read about it plus I knew a professional photographer that never shot in anything but RAW though she didn't explain why. The light was fading too. I stick with Jpeg 99% of the time because my camera's processing is so so slow in RAW. I use the fine setting for Jpegs.

I think most everyone on here shoots in raw, but I heard the files are so big and it takes up too much space on your computer. I love editing and I don't think I have any problem with jpeg... but then again, I've never seen a raw file, but I'm happy with my results.
