Which flash for a G12?

I have a Canon G12 I've had for quite a while, I like it pretty good. The built-in flash isn't located high enough to shoot over the filters I use. Is there a good flash available that has both bounce and swivel? I'm not sure, does the G12 have wireless capability?, that would really be nice. Any suggestions?.

Stick with Canon if you can . . . 430 EX II is a perfect match.
Your camera does not have wireless, Canon flashes have wireless to other canon flashes and still ETTL

The 430 EX II, is pretty much over powering for the G12. That flash is almost as big as the camera, I have a 270 EX, that one or the 270 EX ll is a perfect balanced match for the G12.

He said that he wanted a flash with swivel and tilt . . . I think he's right to go for those features. If ya wanna have all the features, ya gotta have the size!

The 270 will tilt, but won't swivel as if you even need it. Oh well!, to each his own I guess.

Could use a ttl cord...

Would need a bracket to go with it.

That is the way I use my 270EX, I just rotate it in the bracket, if I want to change direction. Honestly the 430 is almost as big as a G12, and almost the same cost.

Even without a bracket, with just a short TTL cord, you can point the flash dang near anywhich way you want.

I have a G07 about the same size, try the Canon 270, on the G-7 I have to use manual but the G-12 should handle the TTL , works great on my T1is also, of course I am not a real big user of flash, Bob.

Haven't used it or played with it but Canon also has a 320 with added features including a cine light a bit larger, Bob.

I use a 530 on my G12 with Canon's wireless remote. For sure the flash is bigger than the camera. gets the job done and it fits my other camera's as well.

I appriciate all the input. I'll have to study a little on this and see what my wallet can afford before deciding what to do. I'd like to go with a remote system on the larger flash. I'm one those who likes to be overloaded than unloaded. I hate having to imprivize when using an under equiped flash.

Hi scmopae

Go for the Canon 430EX ll this will do all things you ask about. Also you can power down the speedlight in 1/3 and so on, this speedlight if you decide to go up to a D-SLR down the road you'll be set too. Good luck on choice.
