i woke from a rather unusual dream this morning.
i dreamt there was an application which sharpened fuzzy pictures.
You give it a fuzzy picture and it generates 10 new images.
You pick the one which matches your needs and layer it on the original.
The result is much enhanced image.
Does such an application exist or have i finally gone over the edge??

You've flipped. Without a doubt.

Every image editor that is useful for photography has exactly that.

You need not get 10 new images, but you can. There of course are limits on how fuzzy and how sharp, but the results are always sharper than the original.

I have found (for me) that a good application of coffee in the morning will help me sharpen my fuzzy thoughts. Or at least get me to where I think that the thoughts are sharp... And for the evening, there are other applications that can produce the proper fuzzy dullness.

Did you find a leprechaun and a pot of gold at the same time?

dreams are always a bit fuzzy in hindsight but i got the idea they generated the 10 images using variable edge detect and the image you chose was actually stacked using contrast values so that only the edges or transition points of the original were effected, not the whole image.
It seems that could be accomplished easily in software without requiring any other images.

kind of like an blurred high-pass overlay... Am thinking that edge detection algorithms combined with sharpening would do some of that, but I'm sure the magic is in selecting those areas you want to enhance...

Its simpler to just get the image in focus and stop dreaming absurdities. There is no software app to fix mediocre images, sorry.

i was just thinking how nice it would be if when i focus on the eyelashes, the nose wouldn't look so fuzzy.

I believe is is called PROPER FOCUSING TECHNIQUE. And it works well for most folks, unless they have a bad dream.
