Sorry you disagree, Larry. I stand by what I said - the OP never looked at what was available, not even from Robert's Photo (Indianapolis) in his home state.

I have three pair of binoculars that I use in conjunction with my cameras. Different binos for different situations. My favourites are the oldest, Bausch & Lomb 'National Audubon Society' 8 x 36.The ones I use for canoe trips are Nikon Monarch 8 x 30; they are waterproof and light weight. The big bruisers are Canon 15 x 50 stabilized; they are heavy and use batteries but for long range, or medium range bird watching, they can't be beat. For non-stabilized I prefer the 8 power as, for me, the 10 power are too difficult to hold steady with one hand.

How the hell do you know that? Did you follow him around? A member asks a legitimate question and gets flamed. That kind of behavior is shameful!

If you were face to face would you call somebody a liar who wasn't talking directly to you? Probably not, but hiding in cyberspace you get to be a bully. Hurray for you.

You could have just moved on to a thread where 'maybe' you could have added something constructive.

I am looking to purchase binoculars to take with me on some of my photo treks. I have looked at probably all of the vendors in the Chicago area but no one has a selection to pick from. I would hate to spend up to $1,000.00 and get some thing less than satisfactory. I am open to all suggestions from current users. Thank you in advance.

I've owned two of the Canon binoculars with IS (Image Stability) and really like them. I had the 8x30 IS and sold them to a friend and now I have the 8x42 IS. The 8x42 are great, but they are larger than the 8x30. I might buy another pair of 8x30 because I liked them so much. The 8x42 are really good glass, but just a little heavy and large for me.

I have 10x50 Zeiss binoculars. But nowadays much prefer a nice wide angle 7-8X with 35 to 50 objective. Most of us get shakier as we age, and the 10X shows up as more bounce and shake. I am retired and will most likely sell my 10X50 soon because of my shakiness. Any of the better name brands will give sharp images and nice contrast. Better to shop around yourself and compare them side by side. Bass Pro shops and other large sporting goods stores have super selections and waterproof models abound for the outdoor enthusiast.

So in the Chicago area, you went to, say, Lane Bryant and they didn't have a selection of binoculars. Obviously, you don't want advice, you just want somebody to place a pair of binoculars into your hand without any need for research. Does your cellphone, assuming the whitecoats trust you with one, have Google? You are the definition of the word "troll".

Busted.

Have you looked at the Olympus range on Amazon Neal?. Their 8/10/12 by 25 have great feedbacks and they fit into your top shirt pocket.

Vortex has a number of really nice binoculars! I did in store (Cabelas) testing of their brand to much more expensive ones and Vortex easily outclassed them. In addition they have an exceptional warranty that I used. I was turkey hunting and lost a front lens protector. I emailed Vortex and they sent me a new one for free in two days! I am told that they even replace binocs which were accidentally damaged (like running over them with a pickup)!

The model I purchased was: Vortex® Diamondback 10x42 Binoculars, which is available for $229. I paid $175 when they were on sale.

No I do not own stock in Vortex!

I don't know whether Swarovski binoculars fall in your price range, but they are superlative. I compared Nikon and Leica and thought they were both brilliant. I then tried a pair of Swarovski binoculars and they blew the others out of the water. I had no hesitation in buying a pair. They feature more than any other brand on wildlife documentaries in the UK. They are expensive over here, though.

Take a look at Eagle Optics website, they offer a wide variety of brands. They also have videos that explain what the numbers mean etc. Give them a call 1-800-289-1132, they are very helpful with no pressure. https://www.eagleoptics.com/collections/binoculars Goog Luck, Lou

I understand the eye sight issue. I just got a stronger prescription pair. I guess it is all about getting older (66).

Speaking of getting older; are your hands steady enough to allow you a steady, comfortable image?
