Hello everyone,
I joined last August and am really enjoying this site. I learn something new each time.
I've always enjoyed taking pictures, but almost alway in auto mode. I've taken pictures that I believe are really good, but it has been more by accident than skill. Like, how did that happen?
So, I've started taking some basic classes; and together with the store of knowledge on this site am starting to feel more confident in my photo taking. Don't think I can call myself a photographer yet! I'm looking forward to learning more and sharing some of my photos for constructive criticism :).

Welcome to UHH
I found looking at some of the on-line photo magazines that they had written tutorials on 'how to shoot' X,Y,Z. This is a great practical way of exploring different camera settings in order to achieve something - rather than being disappointed if you 'try' a setting and the resulting image does not live up to expectations. As step by step guides rather than '10 ways to shoot.....' they are more camera orientated than composition orientated.
Links and resources section may give you some pointers.
When you send a picture to be analysed, ask the questions you need answering with it - describe the problems you experienced with taking that shot. What will 'get rid' of this or that using pse or whatever....That way the answers you get should make sense rather than just being someone's opinion.
Don't get too hung up with 'not using auto'. It can take a while to feel confident that by switching it off, you will still get a usable image. If in doubt use auto first and then explore other settings and compare and contrast them.
Have fun
Great suggestions all around; and especially on using auto, then shoot again using another mode to compare. That's why I love this forum!
Thank you!
Welcome! Looking forward to your posts and pictures. Happy shooting!
