Need to add Date Stamp

You guys overwhelmingly helped me (over 50 responses), with my question on flying with my equipment in preparation for my upcoming cruise, now I have another question unrelated.

From time to time my church wants me to photograph rooms, people, events but would prefer a time stamp on the photos for historical purposes. I know I can turn this on and off in my D3300 but can I do this in the D7200 to the jpeg images? I searched UHH but almost everything was about removing the stamp, not putting it on.

If they have they have the actual file, the exif data contains the date. You just need to know how to access it.

Search for "Time Zone." It might tell you what you need to know...

The D7200 can't do that, so you'll have to add the time manually, after you find it in the EXIF data. Irfanview can do that, if you also download the plug-ins, too. Display the picture and then press I and E to get more info. Then use the watermark technique to add the time, date, or anything else.

There is a "date taken" field available in Windows explorer when you look at the directory. Wouldn't that help?

Longshadow, its not that I can't get the info needed, I just wanted it set up within the camera to print on each jpg photo as it came out of the camera like the entry level DSLR's or point and shoot cameras do.

Jerry C41, thanks for the info.

I realize that probably 99% of people who have the level of the D7200 and higher cameras up through professional levels, would never use the Date Stamp, but for those of us who find unique situations where it can save time and is needed or requested of the photographer, it would have been nice for Nikon to have STILL given us the option to turn that feature on or off,...our choice not theirs.

The date stamp serves a legitimate purpose, as you have seen, so it wouldn't hurt to have that feature available.

So you're talking about another step in the "developing" process going from raw to JPEG? I'm guessing the problem is that not many users of a camera at that level would want that feature, and every feature adds to firmware bloat. It would make more sense to have that in a program like gimp, where it doesn't affect the camera; in fact, gimp would be excellent people to talk to, since that software is "open source".

Any software program can add a watermark, but it would be nice if the processing software could offer that option. The OP said he could do that with his D3300. I knew about the date, but I didn't know printing the time was an option.

The OP was looking to have the actual date and time stamp of when the shot was taken, not how to batch process images with the exact same information!

The church has asked for the data for historical archives purposes!

Your suggestion defeats the archival needs!
