The bar over the eye and red under the wing made me think it was a red finch, the house finch has similar coloring. Thanks for the help, I have books and checked there first.

Hi Two Feathers - I googled red finch and did not come up with anything but this is what I found from Cornell.

Thanks for the help, The description of the house finch seems to match this bird. My wife and I have a few books and I happened to take the Peterson field guide and just at a glance at the picture
in the book and saw the words red finch but on another quick look I noticed that is a type the next page depicts blue finches , seems I have a lot to learn. Thanks again
