I now have five cats who own me. One, a Maine Coon, I got from a cattery in a trade for photos. The other four were feral, from a neighborhood colony. They're all sweethearts.
Your photo is excellent - those green eyes say it all.
Great shot and a Great Deed! Thanks for doing that. My crazy hope and prayer is that someday rescue will rarely be needed...

Hi, everybody. Over the years I've become something of a Cat Rescuer. Not on purpose, it just sorta happened.
I currently have three rescue cats and this is Alice, my most recent. One of her former owners died and the other is in jail. She was abandoned in a house for an entire month with someone making a 150 mile daily round trip to feed/ water her. She was headed for the pound the day after I agreed to take her had I not done so. Here, as an Owner Surrender, she would have been put down fairly quick and I just didn't think that was right. She's had a tough little life but at least now she has a safe home and a couple of sisters.
She's borderline feral but is seeming to mellow bit by bit. I've had her for nine days, it'll take many more before she feels confident and secure.
Anyway, thought I'd share. Thanks for the look and happy weekend. :)

Oh John...she's beautiful...lovely portrait!
Beautiful cat, and your portrait is well done.
Very nice picture. I salute you for your compassion in saving the little one. The once feral cat on my lap also says well done. It takes a little time for them to come around, but they do..
Mike
Good for you John
Our feral took a few years but now she doesn't even go out of the yard. She has really calmed down.
Don
Oh, John, may God bless you! I'm soooo glad you adopted Alice! I know she'll come around and love you for her whole little furry life!

Thanks for giving Alice a happy home. She is a beauty with captivating green eyes.
Beautiful kitty. Bless you for taking her in.
Thanks, everybody, for the kind words. I've got one more to wrangle and try to get a photo of to put this li'l project to bed. I saved the most challenging one for last. Lol :)
I've always loved dogs. Even when I also had a few cats. Dogs would love you back. Cats would show you their back. A few years ago, a friend found a cat in his garage. He offered the cat to me and I accepted it. After a few weeks, took it to the vet and found it was neutered so was not feral. I did pay a bundle since he had some kind of a gum or tooth problem and most had to be removed. Anyway, cost over $500. But I get repaid everyday. He causes no problems, jumps into my lap at tv time, stares at his food dish if am late, poos in the litter box, and curls up next to my face in bed, and licks my nose in the morning. Now, diagnosed last week with a thyroid problem and is on a test med to see if it can be controlled by the dosage. If not, hospitalized for several weeks with a nuclear implant...VERY VERY EXPENSIVE, THOUSANDS. I hope not.

My story is similar to yours. I've always been a dog guy. In fact, a few decades ago, I worked several years with a dog trainer. We trained Personal Protection and Compound Dogs. I worked with K-9 Units from several surrounding parishes and absolutely loved it. Though, I usually had both cats and dogs, I always preferred the dogs. I'm not sure how this "Cat Thing" happened but, for whatever reason, I seem to attract the homeless and unwanted. As I've spent more and more time around them, I've developed an entirely different appreciation for them. A dog will love just about anybody, even someone who mistreats it. Cats love on their own terms, though. If you can win over a cat, you've actually managed to impress it, lol. Sorry to hear about your li'l chap. I hope the treatments get him squared away without breaking the bank. It's hard to watch them suffer. Good luck!
