I have a big 4 year old boy with fabulous breeding and a 5 year old girl from a Russian breeder in Maryland who are my daily companions. they can be photogenic and this was this month here in my back yard. He is Far Field Remoulade, Rom, from a Louisiana breeder and she is Princess Liliana, Lili, from a Mad Russian woman breeder in Maryland. They love rolling in the grass playfully in spring. He is 88" long from tail tip to nose for reference, can hit 45 mph and jump an 8' fence if he wants...big, intelligent, independent, loving and great companion dogs. The best athletes of the giant dogs by far doing things you associate with cats, etc. You just don't want to be a rabbit or a wolf around them!

Lovely dogs. You don't see too many of them around. I worked for a vet for 11 years and only saw one walk through the door in all that time.

Yes, they are not a common breed. Each year only 550 are registered with the USA AKC which puts them at 90th or so on the volume list. They are big, take grooming, are independent, intelligent sighthounds and in my view, not a starter dog. To me after 11 years of greyhound pairs of sighthounds the transition was relatively easy but these are the pyramid dogs in the sighthound family and it takes experience, intelligence and some native love for bright things which can show independence to live with and work with. If you do, most borzoi owners never want to live another single day in their lives without a borzoi in those days. Their interactions with humans is so broad it can overwhelm you. Not for starters who need a lab or some highly obedient dog that you can make tons of mistakes with and they forgive you. Sighthounds like these you have to handle with wit rather than force yet they are incredibly strong themselves due to their height and length and the leverage it gives them. If you ever raise your hand to a Borzoi in anger you will lose them forever and their trust. True for many sighthounds but extremely true for borzoi. Smart like a 7 or 8 year old human yet act a bit like a teenager at times. They are funny, elegant, loving, loyal, clever and dumb all at the same time while being the best of the big dog athetes by far at the same time. Think of a huge cat athletically and you have a borzoi. Can you tell I'm a fan and a half? LOL.
