The Tamron 16-300mm is one of the newer and better super zooms around right now. Superzooms in general are a compromise. They all tend to have higher levels of distortion and are not as sharp nearer the edges of the images as in the center. And, the image centers are not as sharp as good prime lenses and short focal range zoom lenses. They also can struggle to lock focus in low light and need a flash for indoor shooting. The image quality is usually at the same level and sometimes even a bit below that of the standard kit lenses that are sold with mid to lower end bodies. The advantages are clear. You have one do-it-all lens rather than several. It means the right focal length is always on the camera. So, you're trading off higher quality images for convenience. But, for many the trade off is worth it. If you are willing to accept that, the Tamron 16-300 is a good choice. Depending on what and how you shoot, and how finicky you are with the image quality, the Tamron 16-300 may be the only lens you'll ever need.

I've been using the Tamron 16-300 on the 7D mk II and love it. And I usually carry a different lens with me anyway just in case I think I need it. For all intents and purposes, this is a neat lens to play with. And in most cases, assuming that your not a pro selling your photos, you'll love it.

I have and use the Tamron 16-300 on my T3i and 70D. Last fall the images developed out lines in blue and red. I found that when set at 300 mm. that the lens sagged. I returned the lens to Tamron for repair. After a week and an half I got the lens back. The lens under warranty so all I paid was shipping. The repair slip said that missing and broken parts were replaced and the lens realigned. It seems to work better than ever now.

I love my Tamron 16-300mm! Always in my T5i and it does an excellent job, wide landscape scenes and macro like close ups. Perfect size, for traveling is all I need.
