I have a Sony a6000, and I am thinking about 600 mm lens. I would like a zoom lens, but would consider a prime lens. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

600mm prime will be very expensive, you may be better off with a sigma 150-600 sport lens. I believe they make this lens with a sony mount. google.

You do know that you will be manually focusing ?

The Canon FD 400mm f4.5 was made for manual focusing since it has internal focus that you do with the tip of one finger. Use Clear Image Zoom to get to 600mm ......a great lens !

All AF lenses were not designed to be manually focused

There are probably no vintage manual focus zoom lenses that are any good.

Yes, your only choice then, is to get one of the Sigma 150-600 lenses in Canon mount and get the Sigma Canon to Sony e-mount adapter. $$

The Tamron 150-600mm G2 is a perhaps better lens and also works using a Metabones adapter. Either the Sony A mount or the Canon EF mount version, plus appropriate adapter, works.

- although "works" might be debatable as to focus speed - I do not know....

It is never totally dark all day. But today there will be 5 hours and 7 minutes of direct sunlight, and over 8 hours of Civil Twilight split before and after.

I am oh so glad I stuck with the a-mount. it makes fitting a good range of lenses so much easier.

I thought above the Circle you had a couple months of total darkness at this time. First hand info is hard to beat! Makes for a lot of long exposures! Thanks much for your reply.

Even on December 21st there is a couple hours of Civil Twilight. That is enough to read a newspaper, and you could even drive around in a car without turning on the headlights, though I certainly wouldn't recommend it! On the other hand, in the summer the sun literally never goes down and it doesn't even get dim. In the summer we play outside at 3 AM just as much as at 3 PM!

Why does everyone have to take pictures at a distance? There are too many problems. Lenses are expensive, slow, a tripod is an absolute must, and applying depth of field is out. I use a 35mm/1.8 and a 105mm/2.8 prime almost all the time, and still use a tripod most of the time.

Gosh, I missed this wisdom. I guess I should sell everything I own and learn from a master. Please excuse the cynicism, we all have different uses and desires. Some pictures require a long lens as do some which shine with your two lenses. Some images require wider lenses than your 35mm. Your desires and goals make your two lenses perfect for your uses and desires, but your goals are not others goals, needs or desires. I respect your ability to meet your goals with only two lenses.
