Focus Fine Tuning

I have been following the discussions about fine tuning the focus of lenses and camera bodies. Pardon my ignorance, but can someone give a simple description of what this involves. I have a Nikon D3300, with the kit lenses, 18-55 and 55 - 200. Also have lenses from my 35 mm film days, Canon FD & FL types, that I use on my Nikon with a FotoDiox converter.

I do not think the D3300 supports FFT .....

One thing to keep in mind is that lenses with maximum aperture of F4.0 or smaller, the dof will mask any minor imperfection in focus.

Yes, Nikon D3300 does not support Focus Fine Tuning. However several of the sites gave me a better idea of what is involved. Thanks to everyone for responding.

Sorry, the D3300 does not have the fine tuning feature. Oops, too late.

What ever you read forget. The one and only way you can focus is with the focus ring on the lens or by moving the camera..

That depends on the lens and the distance that you are shooting. Case in point, the 500mm and 600mm f/4.0 lenses do show where your focus point is and it can make a big difference. True the DOF is no where near what it is for a 50mm f/1.8 but it does work on f/4.0 lenses.

Fear not, I have over 20 auto focus Nikon lenses and not one, not one has needed fine tuning, I get sharp 20X30 prints with most of them. No worries, go out and shoot.
