Winter in Michigan can get very long and tedious, and I get so desperate for something to shoot that I resort to the most mundane things, just to satisfy that urge to hear a "click". I trust I'm in good company.

Lots of sparrows, finches etc on here. Look at some of the ones Regis posts when he can't find any eagles.

I have the P900 and am impressed by your shots - what zoom length did you use to get these excellent shots?

Sandy, you will find out that UHH is a great site. There are many people here that will become friends within a short period of time. Realize there are many different areas on UHH to aid in finding what you want. I spend most of my time on the Close Up section but frequent the other forums here.

Greg

I failed to mention that your photos are great. Thank you for posting.

The one on the branch shows 268mm in the EXIF and the one on the bird feeder shows 152mm. I believe on the P900, full optical zoom would be 357mm. The birds were close, and the photos taken from my window.

Here I have posted one taken from a long distance across a field, and the full optical zoom was used, with the EXIF showing 357mm.

In Dec. I bought a Nikon D500. Since then I have bought four new Nikkor lenses for the camera. I had an old Nikon and one old DX lens and decided to go all the way with my purchases (Tax returns are going to pay for most of it). Now I'm in WI and the weather has been very cold with some snow. I'm stuck in the house on most days. My cat is getting used to being a model and she just looks at me every time I go to take her picture. Love the D500 with an SB5000 speedlight on it. It does a terrific job on the eyes of the cat with no red eye to be found. I am anxiously awaiting better weather to be able to get out more. In the meantime I'm reading up on the camera and I'm going to start a class next week being offered by a local camera shop.
