What is the best reasonably priced scanner for converting my old slides to digital format?

Depending upon how many slides you are planning to scan, it may be more cost effective to pay a scanning service. Their are
many on-line sources for slide scanning.

What do you mean by "reasonably priced? Is the sole use only for converting slides? What are the characteristics of the slides? What software will you use?

About $1.00 ea. That's what I paid when it was said and done. I did about 120 slides, some stereo, some just standard 35mm, and it cost me about $100.

Best bang for the buck is the Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner. I have used them for years for literally THOUSANDS of scans from 110 format to 4"x5". Under $200

My budget is about $300. They are all 35mm mounted slides, probably several thousand. Some I have looked at scan directly to an SDcard with no mention of software, others come with software.

I second the Epson product. I have the V750 which is out of the budget but the V600 is very capable. It also does negatives and old pints. In addition it scans to PDF for other document needs. Quite versatile and top quality.

Scanning the slides works fairly well but does take a special scanner to mount them properly. Since they need to be lighted from behind they can't be done on a standard flatbed scanner.
Many people now recommend getting a device that lets them copy the slides directly into their digital camera. Since you use your existing camera you just need the frame to hold the slide in front of the camera.

I’ve been using an Epsom V550 with great results for almost 3 years now, mostly 6 x 7 & 6 x 9 transparencies, some 35mm slides. It does up to I believe 6 x 12s.

Refurbished used V550's are about $120 US.

I bought this one for my wife several weeks ago and she loves it. Seconds per slide.

I think you might be confused. The Epson scanners are standard flat bed scanners and do a very good job. I have done literally thousands of slides and negatives on a flat bed scanner.

I recently got a $200 epsom and am pleased w the results.
There is a backing screen that you remove to allow light to pass through the slides.
You use it for regular scans but remove it for slides. Results much better than a slide scanner I used years ago.

I had a lot of colour slides - I could copy to digital on the Epson600 scanner but it was taking a lot of time. My son found me an old Bowens Slide duplicator. I mounted my DSLR in place of the bellows and using a macro lens I got through hundreds of slides in a couple of days, I also got digital photo's from colour/BW negative film.
Here is an add for one on Ebay:

P.S. Not mine - I just checked Ebay to see if they were still around,
